A Man With Guts!

A father fed up with an elite Manhattan prep school’s heavy-handed focus on race won’t re-enroll his daughter in the fall, accusing the school of trying to “brainwash” kids with woke philosophies rather than teaching them how to think on their own.

In a scathing 1,700-word letter Andrew Gutmann mailed to 650 families — a screed since gone viral — he blasted the posh, all-girls Brearley School’s “cowardly and appalling lack of leadership [for] appeasing an anti-intellectual, illiberal mob.” The letter was sent to all the parents of his daughter’s school, but it carries a warning to every parent in our rapidly changing country.

In Cuba, we lived the brainwashing of our children since before Fidel declared as true, what many of us knew, that he was an avowed communist. Then, as now in our schools, children were taught that their allegiance was for the utopist ideology that should rule in Cuba because our history was one of oppression, racism, and abuse of the poor by the rich.

The steps taken were to stop teaching about our factual history, only the parts that reflected evil. Children were made to understand that their parents, by will or ignorance, had been part of the past injustice. You, small children were told, are the nation’s salvation. As models of change all will be soldiers for a better country, fear those who oppose Castro and denounce them, even if they are your relatives.

What we lived, is similar to what is now taught as “anti-racist, critical race theories, or other misleading fancy terms”, but as in Cuba it is a well-known tactic of a minority whose final end game is to control every aspect of our lives.

In a nutshell, if we do not follow this man with guts, say goodbye to our principles as written in our Declaration of Independence; “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

The named school Principal’s response to Mr. Gutmann’s letter confirms my opinion. To wit;
“This afternoon, I and others who work closely with Upper School students met with more than one hundred of them, many of whom told us that they felt frightened and intimidated by the letter and the fact that it was sent directly to our homes,” Jane Fried wrote. “Our students noted that as this letter, which denies the presence of systemic racism, crossed their doorways, the evidence of ongoing racism – systemic or otherwise – is daily present in our headlines.”

I, among many, have written about the farce of the “cancel culture”, and “woke” ideas that are a pure play with words to convinced the “useful idiots” that our United States was an evil creation needing radical change. In fact, the opposite is true. This country was started as a different form of governance that protected ALL of the people, knew and recognized human frailties, and gave us a pathway to change and improve our system. We have come a long way, and there is still ways to go, but it can only be done by continuing our course, not destroying it for a promised one that will lead to everyone’s slavery.

My country of birth, Cuba, is after 62 years of repression and suffering starting to move towards individual freedom. To many of us, it is inconceivable to relive our past in our adopted nation.
